The Project


During the planning process of the projected Transboundary Altai Biosphere Reserve the Centre and its cooperation partners provided consultancy and assistance to the administrations of the Katunskiy Biosphere Reserve and the Katon-Karagaiskiy National Park, to officials and to Non-Governmental Organizations of both countries, including the sharing of conservation science and practice. The following objectives have been achieved:


  • Participatory development of a comprehensive management plan including a functional zonation of the projected Great Altay Transboundary Biosphere Reserve (see below for downloads in English and Russian).


  • Preparation of the formal application to UNESCO-MAB.
